The life of the church is one of breathing in and breathing out. A brilliant theologian named Jurgen Moltmann describes it this way:
“Gathering and sending are related to one another like breathing in and breathing out. The important thing is therefore to view life in the everyday world as just as important as the gathering of the congregation in the feast of worship.”
To be the church is to live in the rhythm of gathering together and then being sent out. We believe that church is not a place we go to, but a people we gather together, always with an awareness that we are to be sent out again.
Moses told God that the only thing that distinguished His people from the rest of the world was His presence with them. Ephesians 2:22 tells us we are God’s dwelling place. Our gatherings are an experience of God’s presence together.
The Dwelling Place is not a church to go to but rather a people to gather with and share the life of Jesus with. When we come together we share our day and our stories. Our gatherings will include and not necessarily in any particular order; singing, study of scripture, discussion, prayer, communion / eucharist, laughter, encouragement, and lots of love.
We currently have one main gathering (see Location and Times) with the plan to establish other Dwelling Places in neighborhoods across the Greater Wilmington Area and help train others to establish simple church gatherings around the world.
So we invite you to join with us in this journey.

HEY! I am soo excited to find you!!
I have been a follower of Alan Knox’s blog for years and I had NO idea about his simplechurch website! I found you on there and then popped over here. We helped “plant a church” in Leland, NC – and through that God truly changed us and revealed so much to us about His Church and what could be and we have met many other sheep – and He has been faithful to continue to have us cross paths with others — but we are really yearning for steady community with others. Oh I could go on and on!!
So glad to have found you!
